22-year-old pleads guilty to fatally stabbing boyfriend in the chest

The prosecutor's office says Teiyahna Bivens stabbed her boyfriend with a knife in the chest and he later died from his injuries at ECMC.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A 22-year-old Buffalo woman pleaded guilty before an Erie County Court judge Tuesday, May 14, to one count of second-degree manslaughter.

In a statement shared by the Erie County District Attorney's Office, officials say Teiyahna Bivens fatally stabbed her boyfriend on Sunday, July 23, 2023.

Bivens and her boyfriend Micqueal Rogers, 23, were in the area of Gerhardt and Northampton Street in the city of Buffalo around 5 p.m. when she stabbed him in the chest with a knife.

Rogers was taken to ECMC where he reportedly died from his injuries.

A reduced charge plea was offered to Bivens with the consent of the victim's family and on the condition that they waive their right to a criminal hearing. The hearing would have allowed Bivens to argue that she was a victim of domestic violence and could have given her a reduced sentence for her conviction.

When Bivens returns to court for sentencing in July, she faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. Until then, she remains free on bail set at 200,000 cash, surety or partially secured bond.
